A Large Crowd Gathers for the Deceased Jeff Elliot’s Encore Performance

A large crowd had gathered

Outside the Tranzac

Because they’d heard that Jeff Elliot

Who had been dead, was somehow now back

Beside me stood three beauties

As young and perfect as the blue sky

They couldn’t wait to see him

But none of them really knew why

We didn’t love him when it mattered

When any day we could’ve heard him sing

It took him going away forever

For us to see he was worth anything

Now he don’t belong to us

But to those who saw what he could be

Before the shadow of his fate

Lit up his light for all to see

The heat inside made it close

And smoke was in the air

But no one cared because his genius

Like the smoke, was in the air

The three beauties pushed to the front

Just like they’d always done

They only knew one song

They hoped he’d play that one

The opening act was a mystery

That everyone ignored

We had only one destination

There was no need to explore

And finally the lights dimmed

And everybody turned around

To see the man the world had told us

Would knock us to the ground

Chorus

He played all the hits

That we all learned after he died

Even the posthumous release

That made the three beauties cry

His words rattled like the chains

Like a ghost that ran through my head

We repented with our love

But in the end he said

You didn’t love me when it mattered

When any day you could’ve heard me sing

It took me going away forever

For you to see I was worth anything

I don’t belong to you

But to those who saw what I could be

Before the shadow of my fate

Lit up my light for all to see

Before the shadow of my fate…
