Sparrow

I’m trying to dream it up again

Put the pieces back where they should have been

I’ll put the leaves back on the trees

I’ll put the summer back in the breeze

The evening light competes

With the driving rain down on Gower Street

Our faces and our feet align

The weather is our state of mind

I’m trying to dream it up again

Get to who I was back then

I’ll put you back in the bed we share

I’ll put my hands back in your hair

The morning sun is blown away

With the hours that I let go astray

And through the walls the voices show

The tone of lives I’ll never know

I’m trying to dream it up again

The master plan from the lion’s den

The midnight girls in the darker days

Of big ideas choked in smoky haze

A million rooms I stumbled through

Til I found the one made for me and you

We kicked up the dust from off that floor

We won’t let it settle there anymore

I’m trying to dream it up again

I’ll walk the road and turn the bed

I’m a sparrow facing down the gale

A moment before the world exhales

A renegade melody

That became a part of me

I dreamed this life with a hopeful mind

I won’t let it all get left behind

So I’ll try to dream it up again
