The Consistency of Sound

The cars are spinning in the water
You’re shifting in the driver’s seat
The intersection is where it falls apart
The problem is always where we meet

You know that everything is different now
All excuses have been made
All the things that we must unlearn
To no longer be afraid

It will pass
This feeling of going round and round in grey
Like the traffic jam at 2 p.m.
Pouring in the middle of the day

These days of memory and reason
Of all the words that you have ever bent
So you fill your mind up with garbage
And wonder where their meanings went

You’ve stopped and started so many times before
You’re looking for the one true song
You’re in the waiting room again now
But you’ve been singing all along

It will pass
This feeling of being buried underground
Like the traffic in the air you breathe
or the consistency of sound

Take your passion; take your strength now up in song
Or just like beauty they will very soon be gone
Take your anger; take your hatred from the frame
I’m know I’m changing but it all still feels the same
