Urban Sprawl

I raced you up the hill
to find no water in the pail
I bought your frayed old tales
til they were not for sale

I ran for president
When a president could lie
Now I set the precendent
That everyone abides

Add and take away
Trust in and betray
all to find a way
to reach
zero

Waves of concrete
seas of same
initials in the pavement
but never names

A road through the forest
as far as eyes can see
I carved your heart in the woods
and took down the trees

race you to the bottom
race you to the bottom

Distance is back in style
it only took a little while
you were once a little child
but we fixed that, didn’t we?

It’s gotten pretty late
For that tired twist of fate
Waited for like a hook with bait
It’s a fixed game don’t ya see?
